A Kalenjin politician who built his career as a parliamentary organizer before ascending to the presidency on a "hustler" platform of bottom-up economics, he represents a deliberate break from the Kenyatta-Odinga dynastic axis that dominated Kenyan politics since independence. He holds a Ph.D. in plant ecology from the University of Nairobi (2018).
