Reports that Capt. David Hazutt, 21, a platoon commander in the Golani Brigade's 12th Battalion from Ashkelon, was shot and killed at around 02:00 IDT Sunday when a Hezbollah operative opened fire as troops entered a structure in Deir Siryan, south of the Litani River northeast of Metula. A second soldier was lightly wounded; the gunman fled. Notes Hazutt as the first Israeli fatality since the trilateral Lebanon framework was signed June 26.
