The Jakarta Post · Indonesia · Police arrest 24 in Surabaya as protests against Prabowo's fuel price hike spread across Indonesian cities
The Jakarta Post reported that about 100 people rallied near Surabaya's East Java government building on June 27, opposing the fuel price increase and the free-meals programme. After some protesters threw rocks and set rubbish alight, police detained 24 people and held them through the night; rights group KontraS Surabaya confirmed no formal charges were filed.
“Protesters erupted in several Indonesian cities after Prabowo's administration raised prices of non-subsidised gasoline by around 30 percent.”
