The Jakarta Post reported that about 100 people rallied near Surabaya's East Java government building on June 27, opposing the fuel price increase and the free-meals programme. After some protesters threw rocks and set rubbish alight, police detained 24 people and held them through the night; rights group KontraS Surabaya confirmed no formal charges were filed.
